Cavani: I'd never have betrayed Napoli like Higuain

Although he has often been linked with a move to Juventus, Edinson Cavani has insisted he would never betray former club Napoli by joining the Turin outfit.

The Argentina international completed a controversial, record-breaking transfer from the Stadio San Paolo to the Juventus Stadium this summer.

Juventus were interested in 'El Matador' in 2013 but the striker opted for a 64 million switch to Paris Saint-Germain instead and claimed he would never follow the path taken by his fellow South American.

"Everyone is free to do whatever they choose to do but all I can say is that [his] choice is one that I would never have made," Cavani told reporters in the mixed zone on Sunday following PSG's 3-0 win over Metz.

Higuain's transfer north has been met with a great deal of hurt and anger in Naples, where the striker was revered throughout his time at the club.

One pizza place in the city has offered a massive discount of 1 on pizzas if the striker picks up an injury at Juventus, while oversized Higuain jerseys have been placed on sale, mocking the player's weight struggles which have surrounded him over the past two weeks.

Cavani rejected another move to Juve last summer in order to pursue a 12m per season wage increase in the French capital, before having to 'settle' for a salary of 7.5m./ShikoNews
