'Angelina Jolie' Kurdistan dies during fighting against ISIS

A fighter named "Angelina Jolie Kurdistan ', because of the similarity with the Hollywood star, has died while fighting ISIS.

Member Ramazan Asia was among the local women group "Women Protection", while Kurdish group was faced with ISIS near Syria's border with Turkey.

But reports have indicated that the 22-year-old was killed in a fierce clash with the terrorist network in northern Syria.

The 22-year-old was a member of the Kurdish Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) battling IS since 2014.

According to Iran Front Page, Antar was “renowned” for her involvement in a number of battles against the Islamic terror group in northern Syria.

A message posted on the We Want Freedom for Kurdistan Facebook page claims she was “martyred in a battle against Daesh”.

Her death has yet to be officially verified.

The YPJ is an all-female Kurdish military branch of the of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) to defend from attacks by IS militants, the Syrian government as well as the Al Qaeda.

The group played a critical role in rescuing the thousands of Yazidis trapped on Mount Sinjar by ISIS fighters in 2014.

The organisation currently has over 7,000 volunteer fighters between the ages of 18-40.

Those under the age of 18 are unable to take part in frontline fighting but are still able to join the movement and undergo military training.

They currently receive no funding from the international community and the women are reliant on the Kurdish community for supplies and food.

But during the siege of Kobani, the YPJ with YPG received 27 bundles totalling 24 tons of small arms and ammunition as well as 10 tons of medical supplies from the US and Iraqi Kurdistan./ShikoNews
