Bale: Now's the time to continue making history

Wales have only been to the World Cup once back in 1958 and Gareth Bale began 2018 qualification on the right foot with a brace and an assist, in hopes of continuing to make history and make it to Russia to bring his country back to the promise land.

The Real Madrid winger inspired the Dragons to a semi-final berth in the European Championship earlier this summer, but can hardly rest on past laurels if he is to go one step further and assure a spot in international football's most prestigious tournament.

Gareth Bale is 27 years old and must be near the peak of his considerable football powers. He won his second Champions League less than one month ago.

Today he will play the biggest match of his life, a European Championship last-16 against Northern Ireland. Win that, and they are in the quarter-finals, matching Wales’ best ever performance in a football tournament.
"The moment has come to continue making history," Bale said to Sky Sports. "What happened in France was historic, but it is behind us now."

Joe Allen was also on the scoresheet against Moldova in a 4-0 win, and reiterated how the team is looking to build on its Euro 2016 success to take steps in the right direction.

"We wanted to take advantage of the fine form we've been in since the European Championship and continue growing as a team so we can keep winning."/ShikoNews
